Hayes Family Cookbook Challenge Week #4

Caramelicious Fudge Brownies **** HFC114
My only suggestion on this recipe is there is too much caramel.  Next time I will cut that part of the recipe in half otherwise as you can tell by the picture, the caramel pretty much takes over on the brownies.  I did modify this recipe a bit to fit half my family which does not care for nuts...they loved them too! Most certainly would be a five with half the amount of caramel...but then would they be caramelicious????  Watch for further posts!

Hayes Family Cookbook Challenge Week #3

Sweet Milk Pancakes **** HFC 84
I had high expectations for this recipe because I thought it was going to be similar to Mom's lacy pancakes that she used to make.  I believe the recipes are similar just how to fry them is different.  This recipe makes a lot of batter...with my family of six we did eat most of the cakes I made but smaller families may want to cut the recipe in half.  The more I made the better I got at the thickness.  They should be quite thin which Allison gave it a lower rating because she got some of the first ones will I was still experimenting.  Very good flavor but I think we will stick to regular pancakes...this only once in a while.

Hayes Family Cookbook Challenge Week #2

Puppy Chow    ****    HFC 174
Granted this was not a true "new" recipe we did try this version.  The family gave it a four rating because we realized that we were going to need to add more cereal while we were mixing it together.  Other recipes we have used called for using 9 cups of cereal.  This is what we went with.  Linda's recipe also called for Crispix cereal - which I could not find at the grocery store I stopped at. Instead we used corn and rice Chex.  Making this recipe other times I would agree that the Crispix cereal seems to hold up better with the mixing and doesn't create so many crumbles.  Definitely a family favorite...especially during swim season when it becomes know as Otter chow at our home swim meets!

Hayes Family Cookbook Challenge Week #1

So JoAnn has inspired me to try this challenge as well so in week #1 .....

Chicken Supreme *** 1/2   page 17 HFC

Our family gives this dish 3 1/2 stars.  First of all it might have helped had I followed the recipe totally...but I didn't.. starting with not having the oven to the correct temp to added mixed veggies instead of only broccoli and added more biscuits than the recipe called for.  I only had it on 350 degrees vs 400 degrees which caused the vegetables to be crunchy which Gary does not like.  Garrett just doesn't like dishes with any kind of color so he didn't like it from the get go.  Overall the dish had good flavor and was very eye appealing.  However, I was expecting more of a creamier dish similar to a pot pie.  We served it with dressing which made a very nice meal.  I think if I tweak this recipe a bit it will appeal to more of the family and rate higher on the star scale.
