Barb's Roman Apple Cake - Week 9 - Hayes Family Challenge

This recipe is almost identical to the Streusel Filled Coffee Cake recipe - the only differences are a teaspoon of baking soda and the apples - so if you are looking for a cake recipe - pick a different one - this one should be served at breakfast.  It is an excellent coffee cake - very moist and tasty.  I wasn't able to try it warm with the ice cream or whipped cream since I took this to a weekend scrapbooking party but they all raved about it!  I bet it would be pretty good microwaved with a dab of butter!  Now I am also curious if I add apples to the afore mentioned recipe if it will be as good?? Guess that will be the next thing I try.....

Buttery Oatmeal Turtle Bars ***** - Week 8 Hayes Family Challenge

This recipe I am guilty on not reading the directions very well.  When I am baking I have a tendency to quickly read the directions to get the idea of how ingredients are to be mixed.  Depending on how rushed I am to baking I may or may not re-read the directions - that was the case in this baking.  I thought that the pecans were to be mixed into the other ingredients for the bottom - well AFTER I had put them into the butter, oatmeal, flour and brown sugar - then I re-read the directions and realize that they are to be added after that stuff in pressed into the baking pan - oops!  I also didn't have the baking chocolate chunks but used chocolate chips instead which worked just fine. Regardless these are buttery delicious and can not wait to make again - this time the right way!

Banana Muffins ***** - Week 7 Hayes Family Challenge

This recipe is a five star plus recipe because I probably make these muffins every six weeks or so!  Ok you caught me - it again is not a new recipe but when I found it in a cookbook it is titled "Best Banana Muffins"  and it is!!  They are moist, good with nuts, chocolate chips or plain.  Right out of the oven they are a treat for all in our family - especially with butter melting on them!  This one is a keeper!

molasses Cookies **** - Hayes Family Cookbook Week 6

This was not the first time we have tried these cookies but haven't made them in a while.  Overall a good cookie and according to the recipe a prize winning cookie at that.  They stay moist for several days if stored correctly in an air tight container.  Certainly a cookie that i would make again - just do not always have molasses on hand.
